Historical Content

Showcasing the historical significance of Canadian involvement in the Montreal Olympics and Toronto Paralympics, this illustrated series uses sequential art to capture the motion and energy of sport while portraying athletes in visually dynamic ways.

Getting the Games
As the city of Montreal had captured the Games without federal or provincial involvement, it was the Drapeau administration’s responsibility to implement them. Due to his personal prestige and grip over his party, “le Parti civique”, at city hall, the mayor took charge of the Games.

Athletic Achievements
Knowing they would soon welcome the first Olympic Games in their history, Quebec and Canada invested to nourish an athletic spirit in young people.
Arts and Culture
The Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) left no stone unturned to ensure the event would go off without a hitch. Their aesthetic appeal was also treated with the same consideration.

The Morning After
The Bourassa government, which had taken over from the city of Montreal through the Régie, citing excessive cost, would now be hard pressed to refuse an inquiry on the same subject that led it to exercise a certain degree of supervision over Mayor Drapeau.

Remembering the Games
The year 1976 saw the start of the modern era of sport in Quebec and Canada. During subsequent Olympic Games, Canada also began to win more and more medals: 26 in Vancouver in 2010!
